SeaFrance are unique in that they are French owned (the only such ferry operator on the Calais to Dover route). This gives SeaFrance an edge against their route competitors as you get the chance to sample French Culture as soon as you get on board.

SeaFrance Information
The present Dover to Calais route has been operating since 1996 and currently has four ships in the fleet two of which are brand new "super-ferries" . These are all aptly named after famous French painters who are all recognized for a trademark style of subtlety and finesse - a tone very much in keeping with the SeaFrance ethos:
-
SeaFrance Berlioz
The newest super-ferry in the fleet launched in April 2005. The Dover to Calais crossing takes just one and a half hours traveling at 25 knots which gives you just enough time to enjoy a cup of real French coffee and a delicious plate of ‘steak frites’ in the gourmet brasserie.
SeaFrance Rodin
Launched in 2003, the Rodin has won a string of awards for its emphasis on comfort and luxury travel. It was rightly credited with changing the face of cross channel ferry travel from what was a functional no frills service to an extension or indeed commencement of the whole holiday experience.
SeaFrance Cezanne
Recently upgraded and redesigned, the Cezanne now offers a standard of comfort and service on a par with the newer super-ferries. An impressive domed feature at the rear of the ferry gives a stunning panoramic view and an excellent vantage point for dolphin spotting or simply relaxing and enjoying one of their specialty croque monsieur.
SeaFrance Renoir
Another recent refurbishment has added a feeling of light and spaciousness to the ferry experience. An impressive array of shops, boutiques and entertainment for the kids means that you can both relax and enjoy the crossing while you stock up on last minute holiday items.
SeaFrance Ferries User Review
- Customer Service on Board : Excellent
- Activities on Board : Good fun for adults and kids alike
- Value for Money : Excellent
- Advantages : Comfortable, cheap and great facilities
- Disadvantages : Too much food if you have no willpower!
- Recommend to potential buyers : Yes, definitely.
One of things that really impressed me about SeaFrance was the quality of the actual ferries. Anybody who has a childhood recollection of doing the obligatory family holiday or day trip to France with their school will remember the ferry as a foreboding steel leviathan, all peeling paint and awful plastic seating as it violently belched steam and lurched across the channel with kids lined up vomiting over either side. Anybody brave enough to risk the food would be treated to something akin to the worst hospital food imaginable with the crossing itself a test of endurance designed to see how badly you really wanted that holiday!
Thankfully the Ferry dark ages are now in the distant past with the emphasis now on the holiday starting the moment you board the ferry. SeaFrance do this aspect really well and it helps that they’ve recently updated their fleet with two brand new liners which are very modern and fitted with all the latest features and facilities. In terms of style, comfort and exclusivity I can’t fault them and the service, friendliness of the staff and food in particular were spot on. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend SeaFrance and as they come in slightly cheaper than their nearest competitor there’s no reason not to use them if you’re looking for a Dover to Calais crossing.
